Luxury Real Estate Photography in Genoa and Liguria

Genoa is our home base. Here is how we photograph luxury property on the Ligurian coast, from sea views and terraced hillsides to historic palazzi.

Bright living room with a beige sofa, framed art and a balcony

Genoa is where our studio is based, and the city shapes how we see property. It climbs from a busy harbour into steep streets and terraced hillsides, with historic palazzi standing beside newer buildings, and the Ligurian coast runs along the sea in both directions. Luxury real estate photography here is a matter of working with that landscape: the light off the water, the difficult access to hillside homes and the proportions of old houses that were built long before the camera existed.

Working with sea views

The sea gives a property its most valuable asset, and it also presents the photographer with a problem. Bright water and a pale sky can make the interior look dark by comparison, and reflections from the surface can appear in glass. We plan the shoot around the direction the windows face and the hours when the light on the water is most useful. Mornings and late afternoons often suit east- and west-facing rooms, while the middle of the day can be harsh unless the blinds are adjusted with care.

Terraced hillsides and steep access

Many of the most striking homes in and around the city sit on slopes, reached by narrow roads and stepped paths. This affects everything from parking and equipment to the choice of viewpoint. A house built into a hillside may have its best view from a terrace several levels below the entrance, so the route through the property has to be considered before the first photograph. Looking down from a higher terrace can show the roofs, gardens and coastline in a single frame, and when the slope is steep, we pay close attention to the vertical lines of walls and windows.

Historic palazzi and high ceilings

Many of the city’s older buildings have tall rooms, deep windows and carefully proportioned details. Photographing them well means respecting those proportions. A room with high ceilings can look empty if it is photographed too tightly, and it can be lost if the lighting is uneven across its height. Where a palazzo mixes old features with modern fittings, the aim is to let the original architecture lead, with contemporary furniture and lamps placed so they support it rather than dominate it.

Light on the Riviera

The light along the coast changes with the season. Winter can bring clear, crisp days that suit interiors and exteriors alike, while summer often brings haze over the water in the middle of the afternoon. Golden hour, the period before sunset, is especially fine on the Riviera, warming the façades and softening the sea. We build the schedule around these shifts, and where the weather does not cooperate, we adapt the plan rather than forcing a shot.

Drone and aerial context

Aerial images can show how a property sits in its setting, with the coastline, the hillside and the neighbouring streets all visible at once. Rules on flying drones vary by country and by location, and they change over time, so we do not rely on general assumptions. Our team flies licensed, and we plan every aerial shot within the rules that apply at the site. The aerial work is always chosen for what it adds to the story of the property.

Local knowledge shapes the practical side of the work as well. Parts of the historic centre have narrow, busy streets, and arriving with equipment takes planning. We agree the access arrangements with the owner or agent in advance, so that time on site goes into photographing the property rather than finding somewhere to stop. Owners on the coast are often most interested in how their home sits in its setting, and a short conversation before the shoot helps us decide which views to prioritise.

Next steps

If you have a property on the Ligurian coast, in Genoa or on the hills above it, and want the photographs to show its setting as clearly as its rooms, contact our studio and tell us about the site. You can see examples of our work in the portfolio, and our services page explains what we offer. For more on the evening side of our work, read our article on twilight photography for luxury homes.
